Answers for questions

I’m just going to jump in and answer all the great questions you guys asked! Starting from latest comment working towards the first, and everyone gets some link love too!

Ivy asked: ‘What’s the first thing you plan to move into the new place and how close are you guys to your parents house?’

Well, we want to start moving all the things that we don’t desperately need to live, like books, DVDs and Cd’s. All the things that usually adds up when you actually start packing. And we’ll live about 10 minutes away from my parents. Sounds too close I know, but they never visit us anyway.

For-Tart asked: ‘Do you believe in life after death?’

This is a hard one. Because for me, life after death goes hand in hand with believing in God, (that’s just my opinion) and at this moment I’m not quite sure what to believe. I’m leaning towards believing but it’s hard for me. I don’t quite know how to describe it, it just is what it is. I’d like to believe it though.

Claire asked: ‘What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you? And how did you meet J?’

First off, embarrassing things happen to me all.the.time! I’m a klutz so I’m always falling or tripping over myself. But the MOST embarrassing thing that’s happened to me in front of the most people, I wrote about here. I was working at a restaurant and involves a slippery bbq half chicken, some very angry customers, and some amused ones. And of course a very embarrassed me. You should read it, it’s quite entertaining. Now. Um.

And as for how J and I met. We went to the same high school. Same old story, boy meets girl, girl hates boys guts for a year or two because he’s a cocky shit. And then she realises she actually likes him. They flirt, and he leaves his current girlfriend for other girl. I know, it sounds bad - but she really was a cheating betch and probably hates MY guts to this day. We’ll have been together for 6 years this year in December.

Kspin asked: ‘What do you think has been your biggest accomplishment so far? And when are you at your best?’

My biggest accomplishment has to be the way I turned out - the person I am today. I was at a stage in my life a few years ago when it could have gone the other way and it was touch and go there for a while. I’m proud that at 21 I am a responsible, and somewhat (sniggers) mature, caring young woman. When I easily could have been something else less desirable.

When am I at my best? Mmmm. I’m going to assume it means in social situations. I’m at my best when I’m with a couple of very close friends or family. I’m actually painfully shy and some people get the impression that I’m aloof when they first meet me. I just never know what to say. So I’m most comfortable surrounded by people I know well.

Larissa asked: ‘What is you favorite family memory?’

Boy - you guys sure opened a can of worms. I said I’ll be totally honest so I will be. I grew up in a poor (but mostly loving) home, and my dad hit my mother. You never forget something like that and it’s always in your mind, beneath the surface of your mind. That makes for some really crap memories that I wish I could forget. Sometimes I think something happened, for example a nice memory but then I’m not sure because my time lines about my life when I was younger is also pretty confusing for me, this means I have some memories of things I’m not completely sure happened. One that I do remember and I’m sure that happened is when my grandparents were still alive. We used to go over every Christmas and I remember the anticipation I felt on Christmas eve. All the adults would have so much trouble getting all the children settled down and in the end they gave up, which made for some fun times with my cousins. I’m smiling just thinking about it. And I don’t think any event ever generated the same anticipation.

Tipp asked: ‘If you had one song that would be your life song what would it be?’

This one is hard. If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you’d know I’m very passionate about music. I have songs for different times of my life and songs that I associate with different people.

A few years back I had a really hard time working through my feelings and what happened when I was younger. For that time in my life ‘Broken Home by Papa Roach’ really spoke to me. When I heard the song ‘Face Down by The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus’ it reminded me of my dad, and what my mom must have felt like at that time in her life. Then when I hated everyone as any teenage girl will at some time in her life I secretly dedicated the song ‘The Bitch Song by Bowling For Soup’ to my mom. The lyrics are quite sweet, seriously. Then when I met J he played me a song ‘Girl All The Bad Guys Want also by Bowling For Soup’. I still smile when I hear that song. A year ago J and I was in a tough spot and I had the song ‘Betterman by Pearl Jam’ on repeat on my iPod. There are loads and loads more but this post is already getting a bit long.

JavaQueen asked: ‘When are you and J moving to the states?’

HAHA! I’m there baby, I’m there! Anyone care to adopt two, well trained friendly South Africans? We have great manners and we’ve had all our shots!

BlueSleepy asked: ‘Tell us a favorite memory you have from your childhood.’

See Larissa’s question. But there is one more that I’ll always remember. When we were younger we’d get like 5 Video tapes on Sundays, draw the curtains and just watch movies the whole day with our parents. It was fun.  There are more but that one stuck out in my mind.

Rialeilani asked: ‘If you could do/be doing ANYTHING you wanted what would it be?’

I’d love to move to a very small town, open a book/craft store and raise a family. Not very ‘cut throat business woman type’ but I’d like to see myself in that position. If it’s going to happen…I don’t know.

Eva asked: ‘Do you have any handy home remedies for a dry cough?’

I think you gave me your germs Eva, I couldn’t sleep last night ’cause I kept coughing! So: Mix 3 tablespoons of lemon juice, 1 cup honey, and 1/4 cup warm water, take two teaspoons daily, and call me in the morning.

Birdpress asked: ‘If you had to spend a week traveling all by yourself, where would you go and what would you do?’

I’d love to go to: Ireland, Italy, Egypt, Thailand, America, Australia…and many many more. I’d see all the sights and mingle with the locals and visit blog friends if they happened to be in that area. That would be so much fun!

ThriftCriminal asked: ‘When are you most at ease with life?’

See Kspin’s question. I’m most at ease, surrounded by people I love and know well. Or when I’m home alone, reading or doing things I love. I’m not big on the party scene. And also when I’m in the bush, camping, sitting around a fire. The sound of all the animals, and insects. Nothing like it.

Michele asked: ‘How old were you when you lost your virginity? What was your first job ever? Where do you see yourself in 5yrs?’

When I was 16. And before you think I was a baby slut - J was and is my only sexual partner. I don’t regret it. I think that an act so intimate bonds two people whether they know it or not, and I don’t want to bond with many people in that way, frankly.

My first job ever was when I was 15, and as a waitress. And in 5 years I just hope I’m happy. I don’t waste time thinking too much about the future.

Odette asked: ‘What was it you wanted to be when you were younger?’

I wanted to be older. And a lawyer, but mostly just older.

Tamara asked: ‘What’s your greatest fear? Your best childhood memory? What’s something that most people don’t know about you?’

My greatest fear is to die young, in a violent manner. That and a life wasted because I was too afraid to take a chance on something. Best childhood memory…covered that one. And something people don’t know about me. mmm. I actually have a horrible temper, just…horrible. Ask J, he’ll tell you.

Phew. I think that’s it. If you have read as far as this…I am proud of you, because that is one hugenormous post. Anything I should elaborate on? Ask me and I’ll answer.

Thanks guys for all the great questions and comments on us getting our perfect place finally!

  1. Yay! That’s what I’ve been doing, and yea, it seems to have finally taken effect. I am taking much more than 2 teaspoons daily though. Hm. Hehe.

  5. This is fabulous, gives an even bigger impression to me of who you are. You are wonderful and you and J can come and stay with us anytime, but I’ll need to see your shot records ;)

  6. What a cool post! Thanks for sharing all of that with us.

There were two South Africans, an older married couple, that lived near me when I lived in Washington state. They worked at the local grocery store and they were really well-liked. Well, I guess their visa ran out or something, and the US was ready to deport them. They tried their darnedest to stay in the States because they didn’t feel safe going back to SA, and the husband had a heart condition for which is was very difficult to get the meds for back in SA. Unfortunately, they had to go. It really made me sad because there are tons of people who enter our country illegally, and don’t really contribute anything to the country. Here were some hard-working, honest people who were just trying to make a better life for themselves. You’d think America, the country founded on the backs of immigrants, could have had a bit more compassion.

  7. I think that was your BEST post yet! I loved it immensely. I might steal your idea, too.

Screaming loudly: “I do! I do!!!” (i want 2 well trained South Africans who are well behaved and have all their shots!) Which, by the way made me laugh right out loud here at my desk.

And 16 is not a bad age to lose your virginity… I mean compared to the this decade where most girls are losing it at 10, 11, 12!!! I was 16 as well. Can’t say that I’ve only been intimate with one person, unfortunately so in my book you ROCK!!!
