Movies!
Our power is still out. I know. It sucks. Anyway. I hate you Eskom. More than you will ever know.
So we stayed over at my parents on Sunday. And yesterday we didn’t have anything planned so we hung around there some more. I only got out my pj’s at about 2 pm, and somewhere in between trying to get the motivation to get dressed I caught the last hour of Grease. I love that movie. Don’t hate.
And I got to thinking. They really did dress fabulously didn’t they? (except maybe that guy in the picture to the left - with the knee socks. That’s just wrong!) Okay, so many people wouldn’t agree with me, but that’s to each his own. I especially loved the way Rizzo dressed, those cute pencil skirts… I know, coming from me that’s quite an unbelievable statement because I hate dressing up. I’m not saying that I would wear anything like that, because I’m all about comfort baby, and nothing says ‘I can’t breathe’ like a pencil skirt. Even their make up was great. As much as I like the fashion back then, I’m still glad that we live in the 21st century. Bring on the jeans and sneakers people.
Speaking of older movies, here is a list of a few that I adore but just can’t get my hands on. Any of you ever seen these?
The Paper Brigade
I love this movie, and my sisters and I had it on a tape when we were little. We’d watch this movie every day after school as we did our homework. I really should see if I can get this on DVD somewhere. I
Wild America
I can’t even remember this movie clearly, just that it was awesome and starred Jonathan Taylor Thomas so what’s not to like when you’re a girl that age? Elizma has been looking around to see if she can get this on DVD for us.
Airborne
Also one of those movies we watched over and over…an over.
Funny how some things takes you back to a certain time in your life. I also remember one of the movies we watched over and over was Jumanji. I love that movie. Patty has the DVD and I still remember all the lines.

Lol knee-high socks. Reminds me of my dad. -rolls eyes- Hehe. xP My sister and I have commented on his socks for ages, but yea, he just pulled them up higher and smiles at us smugly. D’oh… hehe.

OMG, I have an uncle that dresses like that and I swear when he isn’t wearing socks it looks like he is! From tanning in the sun he has sock tan lines!
I’ve never heard of those movies. Perhaps they’re only popular in S.A. You want my list of old movie faves? Here they are: “Gone With The Wind”, “Pillow Talk”, and “How To Marry A Millionaire” (this one is with Marilyn Monroe). And fashion? If I had it my way, I’d dress like I was in the 40s: dresses with the small top area and the full skirts (sometimes with crinoline!) and the pumps with the chunky heels. OOOoooOOoooOOoo….
****
I can just see you in those skirts.
Awesomeness!
You’d look faboo in those fashions!!
except for jumanji and grease, i haven’t seen the other movies you listed.
i love old movies too. but there’s one particular movie i’m keen on getting my hands to- shining through, with michael douglas and melanie griffith.
****
Nooooo! You HAVE to watch them Odette! I haven’t watched that though, Shining Through. I’ll have to look into that!
Omg! Airborne, i had forgotten about that movie! After watching that flick i begged my rents for rollarblades, only to fall on my a*s a couple hundred times before throwing in the towel, lol
****
I so wanted rollarblades too but I never could get the hang of them.
Haha! I LOVE that movie!
JTT- he was such a hottie
my friend had posters of him on her wall haha
Can you imagine wearing all that leather like Sandy did at the end of Grease…talk about not being able to breath lol
OMG would they fix your power already…that has to be horrible! How is the search for the bigger place going?
****
I myself had a few Leonardo DiCaprio posters. *blush* lol
OMG he was a hottie!1 lol
Apparently she almost fainted in those pants!!
Honestly, who DOESN’T love Grease?? III know what you mean about the fashion. I really like 50s fashion! Ok, maybe not the poodle skirts, but definitely the pencil skirts and peddle pushers!
And OMG WILD AMERICA! I have that one!!!
****
OMG the peddle pushers!!
Okay don’t shoot me but I haven’t seen any of them. Not even Grease. lol
****
Nooooo!! Watch Grease at least!
Grease is awesome! Now if you said Grease 2, I may have paused for a minute or two.
Hope you get power soon!
****
Thanks Terri!
I haven’t even watched Grease 2.
Oh I LOVE Grease!! And you’re so right — Rizzo’s pencil skirts are divine. I only wish I could wear them, but I’m a little too amply endowed on my lower half.
When we were kids, we’d watch Labyrinth (with David Bowie) over and over and over and over again. So now I have the DVD. God, how I love that movie!!!
****
Hi Blue, I haven’t seen that. Mmm. I have seen A Labyrinth, the one with subtitles but I’m almost sure that’s not that one you’re talking about?
lol i loved JTT and Devon Sawa I dont know why I never saw Wild America! But I did like the movie Grease, I always wondered what it would be like to live in that time (or earlier) and wear skirts and dresses all the time… but i’m happy for the jeans and sneakers for sure!!
****
I’ve also wondered but I am grateful that we don’t have to!
Hehe, I adore Grease and sadly haven’t seen it for a few years. I remember watching it with my mom all the time; we would laugh at my dad when he would come downstairs and groan loudly when he saw what was on TV. ^_^
I’m really sorry you don’t have power yet, that is just NO GOOD.
****
LOL Nice memory to have Becca.
My favourite movie = Grease. I LOVE that film!! And they did dress great back then. I don’t have a clue about the other films though, I’ve never heard of them. Sorry you’ve still not got power.
****
Glad I got another Grease lover here!!
LOVE LOVE LOVE the movie Grease and have the soundtrack too
****
The soundtrack is awesome!
I love Grease and Wild America!! I bought that movie solely for JTT and Devon Sawa..yum.
****
YUM indeed!!
adore, adore, adore GREASE! i had a ‘grease’ themed birthday party when i was in fifth grade and dressed up like sandy.
and once we had a ‘grease day’ in high school for some spirit week event and i went as marty marshino. she is my favorite character. such a skank that one!
****
I really like Rizzo, and her spirit!
Haha!! Marty is such a gossiper too! But she is cute!
i too love how fabulous people used to dress. these days everyone is just too casual! hahaha! i love having an occasion to dress up
****
LOL I love being casual. It’s just more comfortable. But yes, I also do like looking nice.
