Sweet tooth!

You know what the best part of my day is so far? The whole day because it’s  FRIDAY baby! When I woke up this morning that’s the first thought that popped into my head. I stretched out with a smile and turned around…and promptly fell alsleep again until J had to yell at me to get out of bed ten minutes later. Can’t a girl do a proper ’snooze the alarm routine’ without being yelled at? Apparently not.

We’re going to see 10 000 BC tonight which is apparently the best thing since sliced bread, and also have some dinner at Adega, a Portugese restaurant and I’m really looking forward to both. J, Marc, Patty and her bf (I haven’t got a name for him yet - we’ll see how long he lasts before going into the cast page) are going with.

Then I have some gossip on The Family and Co. The mom, otherwise know and The Boss and The Dad, also known as the big scary man that rescues me from little boys, are in the midst of a fight. The mom is angry at the dad because the dad is angry at her for reasons unkown to the rest of us and even the mom. Did I lose you there?

The result is, her calling me up at 7:30 in the evening just as I’m getting ready to sit down to a lovely braai dinner with J, complete with Potato Bake and peas. I had to go in to the office and help her raise some invoices because she didn’t want to ask my dad and I also had to take her home because she doesn’t drive (long story - public transport here is also messed up. Surefire way to get killed and/or mugged is to get on a train) and she didn’t want to ask him to pick her up. So after J freaked out, I got in my car and went to work.

I got home at about 8:30 so it was only an hour but still. It sucked. Because I’m busy with a craft project for someone and I couldn’t finish it and my dinner got cold. Reheated food just isn’t as good.

And yesterday I found out one of the girls in the office has resigned and I have to do her work. Monday is going to be a busy day as I have to go through all her files and see where everything is and then make a system that works for me. I told J that I didn’t really have a choice but the experience will be good for me and it’s not very different than what I’m already doing. Her contracts are South African ones and I’m currently working on international ones and trust me, dealing with international clients is way easier than South African ones. Anyway, I’m sure it’ll go well.

I think I’ll leave you with a recipe. (this blog is in danger of becoming a food blog…noooo!) I got it from my sister and I haven’t tried it yet, hopefully this weekend. We’ll see.

Chocolate Brownies

Ingredients :
250ml (1 cup) self-raising flour
Pinch of salt
60ml (¼ cup) cocoa powder
125ml (½ cup) brick margarine
125ml (½ cup) Illovo SunSweet Brown Sugar
2 eggs

Icing:
60ml (¼ cup) cocoa powder
45ml (3 Tablespoons) margarine
45ml (3 Tablespoons) milk
250ml (1 cup) Illovo Icing Sugar

Method:
Sift the flour, salt and cocoa powder together. Cream the margarine and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time beating well after each addition. Fold the sifted dry ingredients into the creamed mixture. Turn into a greased 22cm square tin. Bake at 180ºC for 30 - 40 minutes or until the centre of the cake springs back when lightly pressed. Allow to cool in the tin.

Icing:
Sift the cocoa powder. Melt the margarine and add the cocoa. Cook over low heat for 1 minute. Remove from the heat. Add milk and sifted icing sugar. Mix thoroughly and spread over cake in the tin. Leave to set and cut into squares.

Have a happy weekend everyone.

UPDATE: Blogger hates me today. I can’t leave any comments and I have no idea why! Grrrr!

I do recall a 10 000 BC entry but I obviously didn’t pay much attention. Or maybe I just missed that post? And the link doesn’t work. :( So I can’t look at it and drool. :) Have a good weekend!

And blogger doesn’t want me to leave comments today. Grrrr

  5. those brownies look ridiculous. aaaaaand, i hate fridays. they are pretty much the equivalent to monday for me since i had my one and only day off yesterday, boo. xo

    ****

Only one day off per week Rachel?? Wow! Two days are too short for me. :)

  6. I want to see 10,000 BC! Let me know how it is.

Those brownies look DIVINE. And you know, I think I have all the ingredients. Question, though — is cocoa powder in SA sweetened or unsweetened? It comes unsweetened here.

I am all about the snooze routine in the morning. My problem is, on Mondays and Fridays I have to get up at 7am to take Gracie to school, but Kurt gets up at 6:30am. Usually I sleep through his getting up and getting ready, but on those days I always hear him, and then I’m too awake to snooze. It sucks, kind of. ;)

Hey Blue, The movie wasn’t what I was expecting it to be to be honest. Not bad, just not what I expected.

Cocoa is unsweetened here too. Quite gross without sugar actually. :)

And I can snooze forever if you let me, and I always wonder why I just don’t set the alarm for when I actually get up. It’s wonderful, knowing you can stretch it for a few more minutes. lol :) Does he make a lot of noise though?

  7. Can’t wait to hear how the movie is and I do not need another reason to hate Blogger, (GRRR in unison)

I need you to help me get my friend Amy to get on and start a blog, pretty please. Go bug her!

    ****

Like I said to Blue, it wasn’t what I expected. I am bugging her! :) We’ve emailed a couple of times and I’ve told her to hurry up and get one. Maybe between the two of us we can convice her huh?

  8. SJ, how’d ya like the movie? My son (12 yrs old) saw it and really liked it. The brownies look good too! Your blog looks wonderful in these colors, the floral header is beautiful! Good job! Have a lovely rest of the weekend! xxoxoxo, Lumpy :)

    ****

Hi Lumpy! It was good, just not what I thought it would be. *shrugs*

Thanks and I hope you had a great weekend too!

  9. How was the film? We had a babysitter the other evening and went for sushi and saw “Vantage point”. Pretty good really. Have a good weekend.

    ****

Not what I expected honestly. Anyway, I also had some Sushi for the first time on Friday - raw salmon and it was so gross. I won’t ever try it again - I’m too much of a picky eater. I’ll have to keep an eye out for that film as it’s not showing here yet. Hope you had a good weekend!

  10. i’ve got a similar snoozing routine - only a lot more serious. I snooze like twice or thrice without even realizing it. and then i go a couple of times again because i want a lil bit of time and THEN i wake up - and thats on the days i dont take too much time :)

how’s the movie btw? and best of luck with all the new work load. What do you do again??

oh and thanks for the recipes.. will try em out some time soon! and don’t worry about the food blog bit.. its all good :)

    ****
Heya Zev! I get those days too - where it’s worse. :) The movie wasn’t what I expected but it was good, and I work for my mother. We’re a Financial Services company so I do a little bit of everything.

Let me know how they turn out will you?

  11. Duude. I want brownies so bad. I hate that my dorm doesn’t have an oven. Gah! I must go home soon and make some brownies.

    ****

Hey Beckie! Make some - - soon! lol I can’t believe you don’t have an oven, doesn’t Luke have one?
